Springville
will finish its first trip to the state tournament in the championship game.
The sixth-ranked Orioles went ahead to stay early in
the second half and beat No. 2 Lawton-Bronson 60-45 to move into Friday night's
Class 1A finals. Springville will take a 24-3 record against unranked
Newell-Fonda at 6 p.m.
Newell-Fonda upset No. 1 Dunkerton 81-62 in Wednesday
night's other semifinal.
Sarah Davidson scored 12 of her 17 points in the
second half to lead Springville. Katie Eiben added 14 points, 13 rebounds and
five steals for the Orioles. Teammate Callie Kloubec also scored 15 and grabbed
eight rebounds.
Davidson did her part on the boards with nine
rebounds, helping Springville to a 46-26 rebounding edge.
Brooke Williams had a strong line for Lawton-Bronson
(23-4), putting up 20 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three blocks.
Katie Sorensen added 10 points, four steals and three assists for the Eagles.
Springville used a 7-0 run in the third quarter to
erase a 27-25 deficit and led the rest of the way. Lawton-Bronson kept hanging
around, though, and trailed just 46-42 after Williams sank two free throws with
3:14 left.
Springville then scored the next 11 points to put it
away. Davidson fouled out with 2:04 left, but Eiben scored on a putback and
sank two free throws to help keep the Orioles in control.
