Treynor punched its ticket to the Class 1A championship game and got a state tournament record to go with it.

The Cardinals took control with their 3-point shooting and beat defending champion Charter Oak-Ute 72-57 in the semifinals Wednesday night.

Treynor's 10 3-pointers were a record in the 1A tournament. Eight of those 3s came in the first half, when the Cardinals built a 32-24 lead. They stretched the lead to 13 in the third quarter, then stopped a Charter Oak-Ute comeback with a strong finish.

Treynor is now 26-1 and will play top-ranked IKM in the championship game Friday night.

IKM lost to Charter Oak-Ute in last year's title game and is looking for its first championship, though Manilla won the six-player crown in 1974. Treynor was the 1A champion in 1994.

Tricia Trotter led Treynor with 25 points, nine rebounds and six assists. She had four 3-pointers, all in the first half.

Treynor's Brenna Maguire scored 12 points on four 3-point baskets. Anna Waymaster also scored 12 for the Cardinals and Chehala Pace added 11 points to go with 12 rebounds. Teammate Lea Hartigan handed out 12 assists and blocked seven shots.

Kala Kuhlmann led Charter Oak-Ute with 20 points and five assists. Kuhlmann, who'll play at Nebraska next season, finishes her high school career fourth on the state's five-player scoring list with 2,337 points.

Kristin Bumsted added 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Bobcats, who finished 23-4.

Treynor went 10-for-22 from 3-point range. The old 1A tournament record was nine 3s by Rock Valley in 2003 and Preston in 2001.

Charter Oak-Ute made a late run at Treynor and cut the lead to 57-54 on consecutive 3-pointers by Kala and Kami Kuhlmann. But Treynor outscored the Bobcats 15-3 the rest of the way to wrap it up, with Trotter making six straight free throws in the final minute.
