IKM took another step toward returning to the Class 1A state championship game.

 

The Hawks beat Southeast Webster-Grand 63-45 Monday in the first girls state tournament game played at Wells Fargo Arena. Margo Muhlbauer scored 31 points to lead IKM and teammate Bailey Schechinger had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

 

Stephany Scheuring added eight points, eight rebounds and four blocks for the winners. Nelia Olson grabbed 10 rebounds while scoring five points.

 

Schechinger also led the Hawks with six steals, while Kayla Gaskill handed out five assists. 

 

With her 31 points, Muhlbauer passed Carroll's Sara Stribe for fifth place on the state's career scoring list. She now has 2,268 points.

 

Southeast Webster-Grand played in the state tournament for the first time. Sophomore Jennifer Jorgensen led the Eagles with 28 points. She also had team highs of seven rebounds, five assists, three blocks and three steals.

 

Maddisen Hansen scored seven points for Southeast Webster-Grand. Emilie Stevens added five points and five rebounds for the Eagles.

 

  IKM advances to the semifinals on Wednesday night with a 26-1 record. The Hawks finished second in the state last year.

 

   Southeast Webster-Grand finishes with a 20-6 record.
