Kiera Washpun is quite a complement to Iowa City High star Haley Lorenzen.

Washpun was all over the floor in scoring 31 points and top-ranked City High rolled into the Class 5A semifinals with a 68-34 victory over Cedar Rapids Kennedy.

Washpun scored on a variety of drives, pull-up jumpers and long range shots while going 12 of 14 from the field, inlcuding 4-for-5 from 3-point range. She also grabbed four rebounds, handed out three assists and made three steals.

Lorenzen, a 6-foot-3 senior who has signed with Florida, finished with 16 points and nine rebounds as the Little Hawks improved to 24-0. Sam Blowers scored seven for City High and Courtney Joens had six.

Kennedy played gamely after falling behind 25-5 but didn't have the firepower to match the Washpun-Lorenzen combo. The Cougars claimed 14 offensive rebounds while battling the Little Hawks to 31-31 draw on the boards and made nine steals.

Kennedy, which lost to City High 67-44 during the season, finishes 16-8. This was the school's ninth appearance at state and first under coach Tony Vis, who also took teams at Harlan and Hudson to the state tournament.

Paige Hendrickson led Kennedy with 13 points, including a couple of 3-pointers. Morgan Martin added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars.
