Crestwood's
top 3-point shooter found her touch at a critical time.
Savannah
Lentz hit three 3-pointers during a three-minute stretch in the second half to
give the second-ranked Cadets some breathing room and they went on to beat No.
8 Bondurant-Farrar 54-41 in the opening game of the Class 3A tournament.
Lentz
had only two points before her big buckets and finished with 15. Madison
Sickles also scored 15 for the Cadets and Tessa Anderson added 11 to go with 11
rebounds.
It
was the first state tournament victory in four tries for Crestwood, which takes
a 22-2 record into Thursday's semifinal round.
Ashley
Burrows, a starter on Bondurant-Farrar's state championship softball team last
summer, led the Lady Jays with 16 points. Lexi Atzen added nine points and six rebounds, while Keely Bycroft had eight points
and eight rebounds.
Lentz's
first 3 gave Crestwood a 34-28 lead late in the third quarter. She hit another
after Bondurant-Farrar cut the lead to 34-32 and knocked down the third to make
it 40-32.
Lindsey
Anderson's old-fashioned three-point play stretched the lead to 43-34 and the
Cadets wrapped it up by making nine of 10 free throws in the final 2:44.
Bondurant-Farrar
led by as many as nine points in the first half before Crestwood started to
click. The Cadets went on an 11-2 run to tie the score at 19-all by halftime,
and went ahead to stay at 31-28 on a drive and two free throws by Sickles.
Bondurant-Farrar
finishes 19-6 after making it to state for the third straight year and seventh
time overall.
