North
Linn's only senior starter came through at just the right time.
Libby
Falconer scored nine of her 11 points in the final 4 minutes to help the
fourth-ranked Lynx turn back South Central Calhoun 57-49 in Class 2A play.
North
Linn turned to its 6-foot-1 center after South Central Calhoun took a 42-40
lead on Ashley Henkenius' fifth 3-pointer of the game
with 4 1/2 minutes left.
Falconer
drew a foul and sank two free throws to tie it, then converted a three-point play
off a slick high post feed from Morgan Boer to put the Lynx up 45-42 and they
stayed in front the rest of the way.
Two quick buckets by
Nicole Miller -- a driving layup and a jumper after Boer's steal -- gave the
Lynx a 49-42 lead with 2 minutes remaining. Falconer followed with two more
baskets inside to keep North Linn in control.
Miller
led the Lynx with 25 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Boer added eight
points and six assists.
Henkenius drained three 3-pointers in the
third quarter to help SCC overcome a six-point deficit and finished with 17
points. Haley Birks added 15 for the Titans, who rallied from 11 points down in
the first half to make it a game.
North
Linn, in the state tournament for just the second time, takes a 24-1 record
into a semifinal game at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
SCC
made its first trip to state as the reorganized Rockwell City-Lytton and
Southern Cal districts. The 12th-ranked Titans finish 21-4.
