2011 Iowa Girls State Basketball Tournament
Class 2A Semifinals
OA-BCIG 67, Monticello 44
Jessie Pauley filled the
stat sheet with some impressive numbers and led OA-BCIG into the Class 2A
championship game.
The top-ranked Falcons
improved to 25-0 with a 67-44 victory over No. 8 Monticello and will play for
the state title at 8 o'clock Friday night.
Pauley has signed to play at Northern
Iowa and she showed why the Panthers wanted her.
For starters, she scored 33 points. She
hit 12 of 17 shots, including all seven of her 3-point attempts. The seven
3-pointers ties the single-game state tournament record.
The 5-foot-10 guard also
grabbed 15 rebounds, blocked six shots, handed out three assists and made three
steals.
During one stretch, when the Falcons
went on a 26-4 run to open a 46-21 lead, Pauley swished a 3 from the top of the
key, stole the ball and banked in a short jumper, knocked down two more 3s to
end the first half, then drilled three 3-pointers to open the second half.
Morgan VanDerSloot
added 10 points for OA-BCIG, while Ashley Zobel and Lexi Olerich scored seven each.
Monticello lost for just the second time
in 27 games, ending a memorable season that included a school record for
victories and the school's first conference championship.
Kelsie Etten led the Panthers with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Brooke Stahlberg added 12 points, six steals and two blocks.
